Pendits Estate

The Pendits Estate is the labour of love for the mother and son team of Marta and Stefan Wille-Baumkauff, ably assisted by András Kassai ('chef de culture'), Szellő the horse and Csibi the dog. After the fall of socialism , Marta's family acquired the famous cellars of Flórián Bilicki in Abaújszántó in 1991. Regarded as the gateway to the Tokaj region, Abaújszántó was formerly the second largest town and commercial center in the area.

Pendits is the name of the first growth vineyard, of which Marta owns 7 hectares.  In total Marta owns 10 hectares, including plots in the Király vineyard and they are planted at 5,500-7,000 vines per hectare

Since 2005 they have been cultivating the vines organically without pesticides, herbicides and commercial fertilizers. The team are passionate about long-term health of the soil and vineyard work is timed to the cycles of the sun, moon and the planets.

The prize property of the estate is the PENDITS at Abaújszántó, one of the uniquely gifted vineyards of the Tokaj appellation. Partly on account of its special microclimate and southern exposure, this vineyard was mentioned among the first growths in the 1867 Tokaj-Hegyalja Album, the definitive survey of “The Foothills”.
